How to Set Up IPTV on Kodi (PVR IPTV Simple Client)

How to add your AbyssTV subscription to Kodi with the official PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on.

If Kodi is already the centre of your home cinema, you can add live TV to it in a few minutes. Kodi has an official add-on for exactly this — PVR IPTV Simple Client — which reads your AbyssTV playlist and puts your channels, with the programme guide, in Kodi's own TV section.

This guide uses only the official add-on from Kodi's own repository. You don't need any third-party builds or unofficial add-ons.

Before You Start

You'll need:

  1. Your AbyssTV M3U link from your welcome email (also shown when you sign in to your AbyssTV account).
  2. Your TV guide (EPG) link, if you'd like the programme guide inside Kodi. If it isn't in your welcome email, contact AbyssTV support and we'll send it to you.
  3. Kodi installed on your device — a current version on Windows, Mac, Android, Fire TV or a media box.

Tip: Entering a long link with a remote is slow. If you can, do the setup with a keyboard, or with Kodi's remote app on your phone.

Step 1: Install PVR IPTV Simple Client

  1. From Kodi's home screen, open Add-ons.
  2. Choose the open-box icon at the top of the menu (the add-on browser).
  3. Select Install from repository.
  4. Open Kodi Add-on repository, then PVR clients.
  5. Select PVR IPTV Simple Client and choose Install.

Wait for the message that the add-on has been installed.

Step 2: Add Your AbyssTV Playlist

  1. Select PVR IPTV Simple Client again and choose Configure.
  2. On the General tab, set Location to Remote path (Internet address).
  3. Select M3U playlist URL and paste (or type) your full AbyssTV M3U link.
  4. Confirm with OK.

Note: Newer Kodi versions show a small extra step first — Add add-on configuration — where you give the setup a name, such as AbyssTV. The fields that follow are the same.

Step 3: Add the TV Guide

  1. Still in the add-on's settings, open the EPG tab (it may be called EPG settings).
  2. Set Location to Remote path (Internet address).
  3. Select XMLTV URL and enter your TV guide link.
  4. Choose OK to save everything.

You can skip this step and add the guide later. Your channels will work without it; you just won't see programme names.

Step 4: Restart Kodi

Close Kodi completely and open it again. On start-up, Kodi shows a short message while it loads your channels and the guide. With a large line-up, the first load can take a few minutes.

Step 5: Start Watching

  1. From the home screen, open TV.
  2. Choose Channels for the full list, or Guide for the programme grid.
  3. Select a channel to start watching.

Kodi also puts your most recently watched channels on the home screen, so your favourites are never more than a click away.

Getting the Best Picture

  • Wired connection or strong Wi-Fi. For 4K, allow at least 25 Mbps.
  • Group your channels. In Settings → PVR & Live TV you can choose which channel groups are shown and in what order — handy with a line-up this size.
  • Guide looks wrong by an hour? The add-on's EPG settings include a time shift value; set it to match your time zone.

Still Stuck? Troubleshooting

  • The TV section is empty after restarting: Open the add-on's settings and check the M3U link, character by character. Then restart Kodi again.
  • "PVR manager is starting up" never finishes: A very large guide can be slow on older devices. Remove the XMLTV link, restart, and confirm that channels load without it.
  • Channels show but no programme names: The guide link is missing or mistyped — repeat Step 3. See also how to enable the TV guide.
  • Buffering: Follow how to fix IPTV buffering.

If Kodi feels like more setup than you want, a dedicated player is simpler. TiviMate and IPTV Smarters Pro only need your login.
